Alison Krauss and Union Station

On July 23, 1971 Alison Krauss was born in Decatur, Illinois. By the time Alison was 8 she was participating in local talent shows. When Alison was ten she was already playing with her own band. At 12 she was involved in performances with John Pennell and The Silver Rail. Alison won the Walnut Valley Festival Fiddle Championship at 13. After winning the championship she was named the most promising Fiddler in the Midwest by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America. Alison has made a big name for herself with her singing and songwriting. She is also a talented musician, and record producer. Krauss is a fiddle player, and she also plays the viola, and sings vocals. Alison has been active in the music industry since 1983.

Bluegrass music is the music Alison Krauss and Union station are best known for. Alison Krauss joined Union Station at the request of John Pennell. When Krauss join this group she replaced fiddler Andrea Zonn. At 16 Alison signed with Rounder Records, Alison and Union Station's first album was "Too Late to Cry." During Alison Krauss and Union Station’s 20 plus years there have been many awards from several categories in the music award shows.
