Bluegrass music has been around for many years. It traces its roots to the people of the Appalachian Mountain region. It has recently gained immense popularity with people around this country, and some of Europe and Asia. In recent years, the bluegrass style of music has increased it's popularity. Bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs stated that the artists have worked hard to rekindle the bluegrass sound. Retailers like Wal-Mart, and Best Buy are now stocking bluegrass CD's on their shelves.
Most people would think that this type of music is only popular in the south, but it has become increasingly popular in other parts of our country. The south is still number one in purchasing bluegrass music, but the mid-west has 23.66 percent of the sales, the west 18.46 percent, and the north buys 10.39 percent of the bluegrass music. In the year 2000, the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou?" was released. This film introduced a whole new group of people to the bluegrass sound.
It reached a younger generation of people, who continue to enjoy this style of music. Some of the more modern bands are now recording bluegrass music, which will enable it to remain popular. The style of bluegrass music has come a long way from its roots. Bill Monroe is credited with being the father of bluegrass music. In most cases, a person hearing bluegrass for the first time will be a future fan. One reason for its popular appeal, it comes from the heart, and is one of the most authentic styles of music ever known.
