Claire Lynch, American Bluegrass Singer/Songwriter

American bluegrass singer/songwriter Claire Lynch, has been gracing the music scene since 1973. Throughout her involvement in the music industry Lynch not only debuted her own music through her own bands, she also wrote songs for many well-known musicians of our time.

Claire Lynch joined the music scene with Hickory Wind in 1973. Later renamed the Front Porch String Band, the group worked for several years and became known for their lead singer and accessible music approach. By 1981, the band decided it was enough. However, Lynch continued by writing songs for such artists as Patty Loveless and Kathy Mattea, as well as recording harmonies on albums for Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.

Lynch and the band decided to give it another try in 1991 with their album "Lines and Traces," later leading to two Grammy nominations for "Moonlighter" in 1995, and "Silver and Gold," in 1997.

Lynch also received an IBMA award for "Female vocalist of the Year," in 1997 and also topped Bluegrass Unlimited and Gavin Americana charts.

Lynch's band renamed themselves in 2005 and are touring today as the Claire Lynch Band. They garnered acclaim with "New Day," in 2006 earning the top two spot in Bluegrass Now magazine's Top Ten Album of the Year. The current band of four encompasses three of the original Front Porch members: Lynch, Hurst on guitar, banjo and vocals, Mark Schatz on bass and Clawhammer Banjo, and new addition Jason Thomas on fiddle and mandolin.

In 2007, the Claire Lynch Band played their first European tour and was the first bluegrass band to perform in the German Opera House in Oldenburg, Germany.

The band is beginning a tour starting May 14th in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and have dates set through the end of November in Tennessee.
