Claire Lynch

She has a style all her own. Claire Lynch, popular bluegrass musician, was born in Kingston, New York. The family moved to Alabama when she was 12-years-old. She is married to Larry Lynch who was a mandolinist with her first band, Hickory Wind. The name of the band was later changed to Front Porch String Band.

When she joined the band she had decided to be a bluegrass singer and play the guitar. The Front Porch String Band worked all around the southeast for the next few years. She was becoming famous with the fans as a great lead singer. However, the band quit due to the grind of being on the road even though Claire had several albums that were popular. Her first solo was Breakin' It, and was well received.

The group disbanded and was off the road for ten years. However, Claire kept busy raising a family and writing songs. Her songs were recorded by several bluegrass vocalists and her harmonies have been on albums by singers such as Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and other country singers.

The 90s were good to her, as the band was one of the most exciting bands around. In 1991, the band came back with a bang with their new album, Lines and Traces. Claire recorded a second solo album named Friends for a Lifetime. In 1995, she was nominated for a Grammy for Moonlighter. In 1997, she was nominated for another Grammy for Silver and Gold. Claire was on top of the Bluegrass Unlimited charts and was named by IBMA as Female Vocalist of the year in 1997.

In 2007, the now Claire Lynch Band went on its first European tour. It was the first bluegrass band to perform at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater (German Opera House) in Oldenburg, North Germany. She is still recording favorites.
